Confirmed: Scalado?s Camera Tech Is Inside BB10

At RIM's keynote earlier this week, CEO Thorsten Heins unveiled a brand new camera app that will ship along with BlackBerry 10. It was quite impressive. It basically lets you snap a pic, select a subject's face, and sift through frames captured before the moment you pressed the shutter button to make sure everyone looks their best. Perhaps the person on the left had a huge, wonderful smile while the person on the right was blinking. With the BB10 camera app, you will be able to fix that. But the tech seemed awfully familiar. So familiar, in fact, that we had to do a little digging to satisfy our curiosity. Come to find that a company called Scalado, known for their super badass imaging tech like Remove and Rewind, actually invented this tech a while back. At the time we were unsure what the relationship between RIM and Scalado was, but RIM has since responded and clarified that this is, in fact, a licensing deal.

Justin Bieber Goes 'More Mature' With 'Boyfriend' Video

Pop star brings new clip to MTV News and answers all his fans' questions during Thursday's 'MTV First: Justin Bieber.'

<P>From the back of a Shelby Mustang right to a showroom filled with classic cars, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> premiered his highly anticipated <a href="/news/articles/1684446/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video.jhtml">"Boyfriend" video</a> on Thursday (May 3) during "MTV First: Justin Bieber." The sexy, sunny, <a href="/news/articles/1684418/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video-cars-girls.jhtml">Director X-directed</a> clip certainly had fans in the room cheering.</P><P>The video comes to life with shots of Bieber driving a muscle car, snuggling with his beautiful co-star and getting his dance on alongside his pals, all while they chill out at a rooftop party somewhere in Los Angeles. It's a more mature look at the growing pop star, who in only a few short years has gone from strumming his guitar on the streets of his Canadian hometown to full-fledged international pop-star status, where he fills arenas all over the world.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber Wanted 'Boyfriend' Video To Be 'Mature'" id="vid:765691.id:1684329" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"I kind of switched it up from all the teasers," Bieber told MTV News' Sway Calloway about what fans saw of the video before its premiere. "I switched up the whole video on them, and really, I think it's super cool. I wanted to do something a little bit more mature."</P><P>The video is full of swaggy images, ranging from his varsity jacket to his cool car, but what left one fan in the "MTV First" audience most intrigued were the gold sneakers he sports in the video. "I did pick out those swaggy gold shoes," he laughed. "They spray-painted them gold. That's what I'm going to do: I'm gonna start wearing gold shoes all the time."</P><P>With the video's focus on cars and friends, the 18-year-old chatted about his own personal car collection. "I have a Range Rover and a Fisker. And I have a Smart Car. It just helps me get from point A to point B. I call it my little 'swag car,' " he said.</P><P>While Bieber made it clear that his off-time doesn't look a lot like the party in the video, he did share what he does on the weekends: "I work. ... If I'm with my friends, we like to do regular stuff," he said, before opening up about what he does to unsuspecting pals in an elevator. "We have this game where basically we hit each other in the balls."</P><P>In addition to opening up about the video and his unusual take on riding in an elevator, he also talked about working with pals Drake, Kanye West, Usher and Taylor Swift for his brand-new album, <a href="/news/articles/1684292/justin-bieber-boyfriend-mike-posner-sessions.jhtml"><I>Believe,</I></a> out June 19. "Boyfriend" is the lead single from the highly anticipated release.</P><P>But with the music world conquered, he also teased his forthcoming work in Hollywood. He gave an update on his in-the-works <a href="/news/articles/1676492/mark-wahlberg-justin-bieber-basketball-movie.jhtml">basketball movie with Mark Wahlberg</a>, as well as his blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in "Men In Black 3." Flattr Finally Lands Big Dailymotion Deal, But Its Business Model Still Sucks

Flattr, a social micro-payments platform which we've likened to a "Like button with cash" is to partner with the second biggest video site on the Web, Dailymotion. The distribution deal is targeted at Dailymotion's key content creators in its Motionmakers category. A cynic might call this a mere test of the platform to see if it can be rolled out across the site more widely. But both parties insist this is a card-carrying 'deal'. Suffice it to say Flattr has been crying out for a big distribution partner and yearned after one for the last two years. But TechCrunch remains skeptical that even this deal will lift the startup out of the early adopter crowd into the mainstream as there remain significant issues with its business model. Then again, at least they now get a real stress test.

Growth worries mount, sending the dollar lower

LONDON (Reuters) - World shares eased and the dollar hit a two-month low against the Japanese yen on Tuesday, after signs of recovery in China's vast factory sector failed to offset worries over the health of the global economy and the euro zone crisis.

But activity was limited with many markets in Asia and Europe closed for the May Day holiday.

The MSCI's world equity index <.miwd00000pus> was down just 0.1 percent to 328.40, as it added to losses of about 1.5 percent in April. The stronger yen hit Japan's export-related equities, sending the Nikkei index <.n225> to a 2-1/2 month closing low.

"In general, stock markets and risk assets seem to be extremely resilient in the face of the news flow which has undoubtedly been in the more negative nature," James Ferguson, strategist at Westhouse Securities, said.

In foreign exchange markets, a view that the weaker growth outlook could encourage the U.S. Federal Reserve to consider further easing monetary policy helped send the dollar <.dxy> to a two-month low against a basket of currencies.

Against the Japanese yen it fell to a low of 79.64 yen, its weakest point since February 21.

ECONOMIC CLOUDS

Worries about the health of the global economy have resurfaced since last week's initial releases of U.S. and U.K. first-quarter growth figures disappointed the market.

Business sentiment surveys and data across the euro zone have also pointed to a worsening outlook as government austerity measures bite. This came into sharp focus on Monday when Spain officially joined a long list of European nations in recession.

The weakness in the euro zone was cited as a big factor behind a dip in Britain's manufacturing activity in April, seen in the latest Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), a leading indicator of economic activity, published on Tuesday.

The UK PMI dropped to 50.5 in April from a downwardly revised 51.9 in March, keeping the sector just above the 50 level which separates growth from contraction.

"It seems that weaknesses in our major trading partner, the euro zone, are starting to hit home," said Rob Dobson, senior economist at Markit, which compiles the PMI survey.

Over the past 24 hours, Australia and Canada, whose economies are closely linked to demand in the global economy, have both added to the concerns.

The Reserve Bank of Australia cut its official interest rates by a surprisingly aggressive half point to 3.75 percent, due to sluggish economic growth and lower than expected inflation.

The announcement sent the local dollar down about three-quarters of a cent to $1.033 and government bond yields to 60-year lows.

Canada said its economic output dropped by 0.2 percent in February from January, surprising analysts who had expected a 0.2 percent increase and dampening speculation the Bank of Canada was preparing to shift to a tighter monetary policy.

But against this, China's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose to a 13-month high in April, signaling the world's second- largest economy has found a footing and may be recovering from a first-quarter trough.

"I think it's not all bleak," Mike Lenhoff, chief strategist at Brewin Dolphin, said. "Europe is stuck in a bit of a dump at the moment ... but outside of Europe life goes on. The earnings results are pretty good out of America."

The U.S. ISM manufacturing index later on Tuesday and non-farm payroll figures on Friday will be next to offer investors clues on the shape of the U.S. economy and whether the Fed will have to lean towards offering more support.

The European Central Bank's policy meeting on Thursday precedes weekend elections in France and Greece that could determine future progress in the euro zone's austerity efforts, and may prompt more growth-oriented policies.

Meanwhile commodity markets were caught between the conflicting signals of a gradual recovery in China and a rise in worries about the health of the U.S. economy, the world's top two consuming nations.

Brent crude held above $119 a barrel while U.S. crude CLc1 ticked up 3 cents to $104.90.

Copper traded near $8,400 a metric tonne (1.1 ton) after rising to its highest level in nearly a month on Monday. Gold inched up to a two-week high, supported by weakness in the dollar.
