Homeschool: Thanksgiving : Ideas for Women Home and Family Blog

Thursday is the big day and while you may allow your children to have the week off for the holiday (many public schools do) you could always throw in at least one little lesson. I used the Mayflower History website in my lesson because I really love the Common Myths they have listed on there. What I did was give a little true or false quiz which questions like:

1. The?Pilgrims?wore only black and white clothing with really big buckles.

2.Thanksgiving was celebrated every year by the?Pilgrims.

You can use the myths to create more. The kids would hold up a little card that read true or false and once they had their answers I told them if they were correct. I would also explain how and why we thought the?things?we did and what really happened. You will be very surprised by the sheer number of questions that they get wrong simply because of the way we are taught things from very early on. Many early paintings and other material is actually very incorrect. My point in case is the two the questions listed above. They are both false, I?ll let you look up as to why.
